What Level of Arithmetic Content Is Asked in the GRE Test?

Why Knowledge of Mathematics Is Important For GRE Exam?

Chandigarh: We all know the significance of the GRE exam. For those who are in the dark, this exam is a standard test that has to be followed for all applications for further education in the United States.  However, most students are concerned over the level of arithmetic that needs to be followed for these tests.

To put it in a simple fashion, any student who has learnt the subject until tenth grade (or tenth standard) will be able to attempt these questions. However, they are not as simple as they seem.  To start with, the student needs to be acclimatized to the verbiage used in the paper. Hence, they have to be used to terminologies based in US English and not UK English.

Next, they need to learn the art of understanding and decoding. Usually, students who have completed schooling are used to straightforward questions in the arithmetic section. However, when it comes to GRE, they need to check what the logic behind the question posed is. This is done to provide a level playing field to every student irrespective of the country from which they are applying.

Next, they need to follow a systematic answering process. (Too often, in their rush to complete, they fail to display their analytical ability.) Instead, by laying out the steps to derive the answer, they will be prone to make fewer errors. This in turn will lead the student to crack the arithmetic section with relative ease. It will also ensure that he or she manages their time in a more effective manner.

So can students include these steps in their preparation? The answer is yes. When preparing for the GRE, the student can inculcate these practices from day one. They should also refresh their knowledge of arithmetic. This will reacquaint them to concepts which may have been forgotten.
