GRE Exam or GMAT Test? Which is Better Option for my MBA Program?

About the Author:

N.K. Dhamija. I am the Founder of New Cambridge College, Chandigarh. We facilitate Best GRE/GMAT Coaching in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula. Today I am going to explain the differences between GRE and GMAT Exams for MBA Program.

If we look at the latest trends, a huge number of MBA programs now take GRE General Test scores into consideration while drafting a decision on the admissions.

According to stats, around 800 MBA programs have started to consider GRE and this has in turn provided for another reason to apply. However, it has also been observed that many MBA programs still stick to the conventional GMAT over the GRE as suggested by various admission surveys conducted by several committees.

4 Reasons for B-schools To Accept GRE Over GMAT

  1. The recent admission pattern has showed that many of the undergraduates are intrigued more towards taking up a high-level business degree. The basic idea behind business schools to select applicants with different backgrounds other than business is to ensure that there is proper miscellany.
  2. It has also been observed that the students who attempt GRE are more from the younger lot while the ones going for GMAT are not the fresh matriculation pass-outs. The reason behind this may be the lower cost for attempting (and re-attempting) the GRE test
  3. There is also a possibility that the undergraduates take up a different course as a bachelor’s degree and then go for GRE or GMAT, because then they have a separate option of opting for a master’s program in the same, just in case.
  4. The GRE test scores, which are attained by one individual, are valid for up to 5 years allowing the student to gain a string work experience before applying to an MBA program.

Options for An MBA Applicant

If you are seeking for an answer as to whether the GMAT or the GRE is a better option, the following 2 points many just guide you better.

The primary thing that you must keep in mind is to find out whether the college (or colleges), you wish to seek admission into, accepts GRE or not. Secondly, you must attempt a few practice tests and then draft your own conclusion as to which one are you better at.
