Plan Ahead:
The best way of managing the stress is to start studying far enough in advance so that you can revise the before your exams to perform well. Schedule your preparation for exams by creating a timetable and following it. Some students tend to be hard on themselves when they could not grasp the math as fast as they hoped. Take into account that you are re-learning several years of math.
One Step At a Time:
Don’t jump directly to the hard questions before you are through with the basics. Learn the blocks of arithmetic, geometry, and algebra before tackling the hard problems. Go step by step and start with the hard questions when you have fully stocked your tool set.
Short Term Goals:
Planning the study is another way to manage stress. If you study in terms of reaching smaller goals other than setting up a massive goal, you can keep a track on how much you have learned. Working on more immediate mini goals is a lot less stressful. Focus on the smaller section and master the concepts and later on move on to other sections.
Revise:
Revise in the section that you have already worked through as it can boost your confidence. Understand the problem completely as it is not necessary that you understood the concept thoroughly just because you know the answer and read an explanation to a problem. After a few days go back and rework on the problem that stumped you.
Understand the Concept, Don’t Mug:
You can easily recall a formula or can derive a one if you have actually understood about it. You would also be able to decipher a single concept tested in different ways. If you memorize the steps, you will become confused when a question varies. You need to understand the underlying concept and not just how to follow the algorithm to calculate.
